The Mindful Morning Meetings: The Kindness Project is the fourth unit in the Mindful Morning Meetings curriculum. The Mindful Morning Meetings are an intentional way to start the day in a calm and supportive manner. Each Mindful Morning Meeting unit contains 4 days, 8 weeks of completely scripted daily 10-15 minute lessons that teach essential social emotional skills. Each weekly lesson builds upon the previous week and includes a vocabulary word wall. No teacher preparation is needed.
In this unit, students are introduced to the concept of empathy and how to be empathetic through active listening skills. We explore how to be a good friend, through accepting differences, learning to forgive, and understanding that words have power. The unit includes many hands-on activities and strategies, including a “Be Kind” hand signal, smile experiments, how to give and receive sincere compliments, and how to practice gratitude on a daily basis.
Included in the unit is a “Kindness Challenge” calendar and a resource page chock-full of books and online resources to share with your class.
