PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Use these 42 Mindfulness Brain Break Cards to help your students build self-regulation and focus skills. Start each day school day or counseling session with one of these mindfulness activities. Place cards into a basket and randomly choose one or two for Brain Breaks for the start of a lesson or transition time. Or invite students who are feeling distracted or stressed to experiment with one of the activities. Take care of yourself too, even using them yourself when you notice that you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed.

These mindful brain break activities are easy to do, quick, effective, and experiential...which we know is one of the best ways for children to learn and build self-regulation skills. I use them at the start of each classroom guidance lesson and always feel good knowing that even if this mindfulness brain break activity is the only thing they remember, they are taking away with them transferrable self-regulation skills they can use at home, at recess, and where ever else they find themselves.

How Mindfulness Helps
Mindfulness is simply the practice of being here now, with curiosity, non-judgement, and kindness. Research shows that practicing mindfulness is an effective coping strategy for anxiety, anger, depression, trauma and other social emotional challenges. It builds neurological pathways that promote presence, attention, and self-regulation. And in the context of school, mindfulness can help students to refocus on the task in front of them and bring calmness during transition times.

These brain break activities are especially useful for cultivating a mindful, trauma-informed classroom.
