I have used this visual for leading a mindfulness activity with a small group of students or an entire class. Students are instructed to close their eyes and sit silently for 2-3 minutes (easier said than done). They're told to use their senses - what do they hear, smell, feel? After a few minutes, I have them open their eyes and look around the room. Students volunteer to name 5 things that they can see in the room. Then we move onto feel, then hear, then smell and finally taste. I have heard some very insightful responses from students and teachers are always impressed at how well students are able to follow directions during this activity.
