Product Description
This worksheet, designed for middle to high school students, focuses on recognizing difficult emotions and allowing them to pass through the mind. Students are asked to think about how they normally respond to difficult emotions and why they think people try to ignore their problems. This is followed by a short lesson on why we should allow these emotions to pass instead of fighting them. Mindfulness practice follows, which is cued on the worksheet with a “Let’s Practice” picture. I will generally begin the mindfulness practice by doing a calming exercise (like a body scan). For the practice, I will lead them to feel something that is painful to them right now, then to visualize that emotion working it's way through their bodies and out the tops of their heads (or whatever metaphor works best for you!). This is followed by a written reflection, and a challenge for the week.

This worksheet is designed to support those educators who are teaching mindfulness in small groups or classrooms. In my own experience teaching mindfulness to high schoolers, I found that some students needed a little more structure to keep them focused on the mindfulness lessons, especially after we had been practicing for a while. They needed something other than just listening to me talk at the front of the room! I designed these worksheets to keep the students engaged during the lessons, and have found myself quite moved at the honesty in which they express themselves in the questions and the reflection.
