This is a lab for working on concentration, dilution, and molarity. Students will need to react a stock solution of hydrochloric acid with sodium carbonate in order to make a salt solution which can be dried and weighed. It's ideal for a performance assessment.
Alternatively to the chemicals listed here you can use vinegar/other acid but the formulas will need to be updated alternatively
A great extension activity which is not included is to collect the gas using the water displacement method and predicting the amount of carbon dioxide that will be produced.
Note: Try to keep all volumes below 20ml or it'll take forever to evaporate that volume of liquid.
