This Minecraft build focuses on the 5th grade Common Core Standards 5.G.B.3 and 5.G.B.4 . I have used it with grades 4 and 6 as well with no adaptations. The PDF you receive is in the following format (for a better look at my Minecraft build formats before purchasing, check out my free Coordinate Plane lesson, http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Minecraft-Coordinate-Plane-Lesson-Plan-and-Instructions-965835 ):
-Length - 1-4 days depending on teacher involvement. This Minecraft build may be used as a lesson to teach the required shapes (octagon, hexagon, pentagon, etc.), or it may be given as a handout to students to work on in their own time.
-Recommended use of the Minecraft build - this portion explains how teachers can use the instructions to best suit their classroom.
-Research - a portion of the project to take place before students build on Minecraft. Students are given words to define and find pictures of.
-Build information - detailed information on the build for the teacher to use. Screenshot of completed build is included.
-Extension activities - activities for students to complete if they finish the build early.
-What to watch out for - This section contains the most common problems teachers encounter when using the lesson.
-Student handout - The last page of the PDF is a student handout that can be given directly to the students. The handout, in conjunction with the screenshot, provide enough information for the student to complete the build by themselves. Teachers DO NOT need to be familiar with Minecraft for this build to be completed. Teachers only need to be able to identify particular shapes based off the number of sides.
This Minecraft build is directly correlated with the Common Core standards listed. There is no abstract correlation; it is very obvious. As such, this build is easily graded by teachers unfamiliar with Minecraft. Enjoy!
