I have seen several Minecraft art projects out there, and this is a file presentation to accompany that project.
My students create a paper tile mosaic using Minecraft as inspiration, and this is the file I use in preparation for the project. You can go further and have students solve math problems based on their grid drawings. (I used 45 pink tiles. The fraction is 45/100 tiles.)
This is appropriate for grades 3-6, perhaps higher if you have students who are interested in the game. This project creates a huge amount of excitement and enthusiasm for creating mosaics.
For a 100-square project: you will need 1" paper "tiles" in a variety of colors (100 per student), 12" square paper for the background, grid paper in rows 10x10, glue, pencils, rulers, and colored pencils. This takes several class sessions: present the material and go over mosaics, create a grid drawing, measure a border, and glue on the tiles.
