I have so many students who are addicted to Minecraft ®, That I had to find a way to incorporate that into a lesson. So here is a simple card game for L-blend and S-blend words.
•Each student begins with five blend cards.
•On your turn, draw one picture card.
•If you have the matching blend put it on the card and set aside. If you do not have a matching blend card, choose a card from the blend pile. If it matches any of your empty picture cards, make a match. Otherwise it is the next person’s turn.
•Continue play until you run out of cards
TNT Cards: The deck contains two TNT cards. Since TNT is use to blow up bricks in the video game, TNT means you lose your unused blend cards (that have not been matched up to a picture card). These are returned to the blend pile .
Creeper Cards: The deck also contains two creeper cards. If you Draw a creeper, all of your matches are returned to the picture card and blend piles. You have to start collecting matches again.
The game can continue indefinitely if you return the TNT and Creeper cards to the picture card deck, or set them aside once they are chosen.
I have also included labels for blends cards and picture cards to distinguish piles when turned face down.
