Product Description
This product includes a chart for students to fill in, and a chart of the information about the minerals (to be used to help students identify each mineral) sorted by hardness. This is designed to be used with a kit of 15 minerals including:

★Talc
★Graphite
★Satin Spar
★Alabaster
★Selenite
★Halite
★Muscovite
★Biotite
★Calcite
★Fluorite
★Hematite
★Feldspar (microline)
★Magnetite
★Pyrite
★Milky quartz

I have included a link in the product to purchase this set of minerals if you don't have them and are interested in buying the set.

Students are asked to observe the minerals and document the color, luster, streak, hardness, and any special properties (ie. magnetism, react/do not react to acid). After they finish collecting their data, they will compare their data to the Mineral Identification Chart and use their evidence to identify their minerals. Students should be provided with the tools needed to find streak and hardness, including a Mohs scale, as well as magnets and acid to test for special properties.

This is great to use in a geology unit to give students hands-on experience with minerals, and allowing them to connect real-life practice to the vocab words "streak", "luster", and "hardness".

An answer key is NOT included because the numbers on your minerals may be different from the ones in my mineral kit.

If you like this freebie, you may like my Describing Minerals Worksheet, which gives students more basic practice in describing the properties of a mineral. It'd be a great activity to use before doing Mineral Identification!
