This is a fun and engaging experiment for learning about the properties of minerals. It gives students a chance to test out the properties of an "unknown" mineral.
Read aloud or have students read The Case of the Golden Nugget. This is about a detective who is called in to help verify a golden nugget as real gold. Students are asked to test the mineral's properties along with the detective decide if the nugget is gold. They record their findings on an observation sheet which is provided.
