Join the Forest Detective Agency and their special friends to solve the case about Minerals in the Earth's Crust!
This special edition set is a great self checking activity that can be used to review for individual students, stations, pairs, or as a group activity. Be sure to print this document in landscape form in order to have the larger size puzzle pieces.
Students can match the puzzle pieces just as they are for a quick learning activity, or they can follow the review game directions. For the game, students can hide the edges of the long portion of puzzle pieces under the laminated set of review game directions. Each student picks up one short puzzle piece at a time and then pulls out a long portion to match with it. If it is correct then the puzzle pieces will fit together. If it is not correct then the student must slide the long portion under the laminated set of directions so that only the clue is showing again and the cut portion is hidden. Students can take turns. The one who has the most correct matches wins.
Sometimes my students like to repeat this type of activity later as a quick review for the test. Students can also use them as a quick set of flash cards. One student can call out the clue on the long piece while not showing any of the card to the other student. The other student can use the short puzzle pieces as a word bank. These also make great entrance slips! Give each student a puzzle piece when they enter the door and then tell them to go find their match! You can then call on students when class starts to report on what they found out by matching the pieces together.
You may choose to give your students one of the task cards found in this product. It explains to the students three ways that they can use this activity for review.
This set contains a lot of options for you which include the full color and black line "Forest detective" theme sets as well as a full color only set for both "Monster Detective" and "Turkey Detective" themes. A plain set it also provided so that students can draw their own diagrams and or write more information on them. Students will love interacting with these fun themes!
