This project is a mini-unit that will encompass two class periods. It can be used for a variety of levels of students, including both honors and inclusion. I have had success with this assignment, but with some modifications. This is meant to be used as a culmination exercise for Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, but some of the worksheets in the assignment can be modified and used for other novels. Recently, I used this prior to starting the research paper process, so that students were accustomed to independent research. Below is the suggested frame of reference for timing:
Day One: Assign the allusion homework document. I usually put the different allusions on slips of paper and have the students pick. Note, I included a list of the allusions in Fahrenheit 451; however, there are so many more out there!
Day Two: Students will bring their individual research to class to work in a small-group brain trust.
Day Three: Presentations.
