This guide was updated and expanded in April of 2017.
This is a mini-guide (a two-week literature study) for the book titled Old Yeller, by Fred Gipson. In this classic tale, a boy develops a love for an old "yeller" dog.
The mini-guide contains vocabulary exercises, discussion questions, reading activities, life application/Bible connections, and an answer key.
This is an interactive guide that enables parents/teachers to facilitate an oral discussion of the book, but it only provides space for one student to complete the fill-in-the-blank activities. If you are interested in using the guide with more than one student, check out the following options:
1) Reproducibles -- they contain all of the fill-in-the-blank activities:
Mini-Guide for Middlers: Old Yeller Reproducibles
a. When you purchase one set of reproducibles, you have permission to make a copy for each of your students.
b. An Answer Key is not provided for the reproducibles; the answers for the activities on the sheets are found at the end of the mini-guide.
2) Workbook format:
Mini-Guide for Middlers: Old Yeller Workbook
NOTE: The content of the guide in interactive format and in workbook format is the same; the only difference is spacing.
Mini-guides were originally designed for homeschoolers; parents and teachers also use them in co-ops and schools. For more information about Mini-Guides, check the mini-guide page of the CNS website:
