Description
Mini Lesson on Analyzing Current Events Articles
This is just an introductory (short) lesson on how to analyze current events. This is a good stepping stone for students to start with.
This zipped file includes a mini presentation (5-6 slides) on analysis and also a similar mini presentation on bias. I use both of these as introductory lessons to begin looking at current events and build upon them throughout the year. They are also good for a refresher throughout the year. Also included is a poster that can be cut in half and laminated that has the basic steps for analysis (and a pyramid on which analysis falls in terms of comprehension skills). Finally, I have included the response sheet that I use to have students respond to the current event article.
Eventually I create a document with the current events and add lines to write after each major heading so they don’t have multiple documents needed. I add at the end of the current event the text below. Which helps myself and my students know if they accurately analyzed the current event.
“Draw a conclusion from your analysis (summarize in a few words or a sentence).
