Mini Lessons – Reading – Grade 1 is a series of mini lessons introducing Grade 1 reading skills for literature, informational text, and early reading skills that grade 1 students need to be successful in learning to read, write, and spell.

These mini lessons are also sold individually under each title as listed in the Table of Contents.

Mini lessons 1 - 31 also appear in these Grade 1 bundled products:

Print Concepts - Introduce/Practice/Assess – Grade 1
Phonological Awareness – Introduce/Practice/Assess – Grade 1
Phonics – Introduce/Practice/Assess – Grade 1

Be careful not to duplicate your purchases.

Each mini lesson is designed to introduce a specific reading skill. This product includes 60 reading skills at the grade 1 level. Some of the skills have been broken down into several mini lessons due to the content of the skill. There are a total of 67 mini lessons for Grade 1.

All of the mini lessons follow a similar format. There is a title, a listing of the reading skill covered in the mini lesson, a list of needed materials, Instruction, Practice, and Wrap-Up. The materials consist of one or more Instruction Transparencies and one or more Student Practice sheets. Every so often a mini lesson will list additional materials needed for the lesson. These are materials already commonly found in a classroom such as six sided dice, an erasable transparency marker, and plastic or paper counters. The pages labeled as Instruction Transparencies will need to be run off onto an overhead transparency sheet. The pages labeled as Student Practice will need to be run off so each student has a copy. Also included in the mini lesson is a table of contents, an acknowledgements section, and a matrix showing which mini lessons apply to each reading skill.

Each mini lesson is designed to introduce a specific reading skill. Once the mini lesson has been conducted, you may visit it again as a review or as a reteach for those students struggling with the specific skill.

The mini lesson teacher plans include all that is needed for each lesson. You need only make the number of copies needed and gather any materials as specified in the lesson plans. The type that is in bold italics (Tell the students) in each lesson plan is to be spoken aloud by the teacher to the students. Words in regular type (like this) are instructions for the teacher to follow in the lesson. Answers to any instruction and practice exercises are included within each mini lesson.
