This presentation slide asks students to create a "mini speech," in this case, a mini special occasion speech.
For this "mini speech," students must choose an occasion or setting to celebrate, commemorate, introduce, or toast to the class. (Short list included on slide.) Then, they must create a two minute speech celebrating their chosen occasion.
Slide includes all the speech must haves. This is a great prep activity for the actual special occasion speech. I usually give my students the majority of the class period to prepare their speech, then dedicate the last 10-15 minutes of class to deliver their "mini speech."
I consider this activity a "rough draft" of their actual speech, and I create some feedback for them to put in place for their actual speech.
You could easily manipulate this "mini speech" into a "mini essay," or even have students complete the "mini speech" to then turn into a well-developed essay based on actual experience.
This product pairs with my "Special Occasion Mini Activities PPT" for sale in my store. Special Occasion speaking is easy for some and difficult for others; however, I find it to be crucial because as teachers, we want to be sure our students enjoy the happy moments in their lives. :)
