This powerpoint goes over how to write haiku poetry in a student friendly way and includes an activity to try in a whole group setting and then independently.
Slides go through the origins of Haiku, what haiku is typically about, the rules, and even some examples from my students.
The last two slides set up a writing activity that can be worked on for over 4-5 days (depending on the length of your writing time).
I used this with my students during a cultural unit to bring in a writing component and then loved it!
It is easy, fun and a great way to incorporate poetry into a lesson.
**can be used whole group/ small group/ one-on-one computer tutorial **
A great resource that can go along with this lesson is the story "Hi-Koo A Year of Seasons" by Jon J Muth.
