This is a lab activity that I designed to use during our solutions and solubility unit. It is very inexpensive for the material and the students were excited about creating their own tiny towers. I have several large towers up out of reach and a couple that they are allowed to touch and shake up to see how they separate. I use these for discussion and demonstration throughout the year. In this activity, the students were able to see how they are constructed, make predictions using our new knowledge of how solutions are formed on which parts will dissolve in eah other, and test to see if those predictions were correct. This was also one of our writing prompts for our ELL writing samples, which gives the students something fun and familiar to write about.
