This lab allows students to use what they know about change in momentum and impulse to construct a safety device for a small vehicle. This lab requires access to force sensors, motion sensors, some small vehicle (Hotwheels or Matchbox cars will work but preferably something that winds up), cotton balls, straws, rubber bands, masking tape, and a computer/handheld data collection device (such as CPO or Vernier). Students should be put into groups of 3 to 4 and given some instruction before doing the lab. I definitely suggest doing the lab on your own first. Students are also expected to interpret lab data from graphs and tables.
