These cards target the phonological process of fronting through comparing words containing /k/ and /g/ with their fronted /t/ and /d/ counterparts (e.g., cape/tape). The cards can be used on their own for drill practice, or with the game board for play.
24 sets of Minimal Pair Cards
1 Game Board
(You will need game pieces.) Review minimal pairs with students. Place game pieces on START square on the game board. Put Minimal Pair Cards in one deck and Color Cards in another deck. The first player picks a Minimal Pair Card (for all players to see) and a Color Card (does not show anyone). The Color Card specifies which one of the minimal pair the player is supposed to say (e.g., bite or bike) through color coding.
The student says the word indicated, and the SLP guesses, based on the student’s pronunciation, which word of the pair the student said. If the SLP guesses right, the student gets to move ahead the number of spaces indicated on the Color Card. Watch out for the Alien color card! The first player to the FINISH square wins!
PREPARING THE GAME:
Print 2 copies of pages 6-7 double sided. Print out pages 5, 8-11 single sided. Laminate everything. Cut out Color Cards and Minimal Pair Cards on the dotted lines.
