Do you find it challenging to stay on top of what your students know and how well they know it in a standards based classroom? I struggle with keeping up-to-date assessment data for my students. They learn and grow at varied rates! I created an Excel spreadsheet that color formatted the cell based on the rubric/scale I entered: 1 (red), 2 (yellow), 3 (green) and 4 (blue). This really helped me stay on top of the formative data from my students and use this data to inform instruction, intervention, and enrichment.
I have since improved the spreadsheet to include one place to enter your students' names; the names automatically carry over to the other sheets (labeled at the bottom). There is one sheet for each substrand, which really helps focus my instructional decisions on the needs of my students. This is a great tool when setting up guided reading groups focused on specific standards based skills.
This may not replace your gradebook, as it does not retain all marks entered, only the most recent. This is intended to hold students current level of performance, based on whatever assessments you use, either formative or summative.
Please note: this is created in MS Excel. It does upload into Google Docs, although it looses some ccell shading and other features.
