The activity book Our Minnesota Community, introduces you to real Minnesotans from a diverse range of heritage backgrounds. The stories presented in the book reflect what the individuals wanted to share about their cultures. As children read about the different Minnesotans, we hope they will think about how culture and heritage are important in the life stories of these Minnesotans and are also important in their own stories. As their view of what it means to be a Minnesotan expands, we believe it will also increase their curiosity and understanding of our big, shared world.
This product is a sampling of the activity book featuring the culture profile of Fatoun, a Somali Minnesotan. Through it students will learn about Fatoun's values, popular Somali comfort foods and how she relaxes at the end of a long week. Then, they will have the opportunity to reflect on their own favorite day of the week and free time activity through writing a poem and responding to a writing prompt.
For the entire activity book, featuring the heritage backgrounds of: Ojibwe, African American, German, Swedish, Mexican, Chinese, Indian, Korean, Vietnamese, Laotian, Hmong, Somali and Ethiopian, visit us at www.OurMinnesotaCommunity.com.
