I introduce Minute Math in the last quarter of Kindergarten and use throughout 1st Grade. This year I used Minute Math when my students had begun to use equations to solve word problems and were ready for the study of math facts (I’m not kidding – they asked). These tests are leveled to encourage the use of certain skills for problem solving and to build upon previous knowledge. I give students five minutes to get 45 of 50 questions correct.
26 Leveled Addition and Subtraction Tests (in order):
plus 1, 2, 0, minus 1, 0, 2, doubles addition (4+4), doubles subtraction (8-4), plus 10, 9, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, doubles plus 1 (4+5), doubles minus 1 (5+4), minus 10, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Instructions and Suggested Use
My students are each given a Minute Math folder in which they keep their Minute Math test and their Progress Monitor. Before each test they are given their folder with their current level test and Progress Monitor. After each test students receive their corrected test and record it on their Progress Monitor. It is so meaningful for them to see how they grow each time they take a test!
