This comic strip version of Miré los Muros de la Patria Mía , created by one of my talented students (she will receive half of the proceeds), is a great introduction to what transpires in this poem. Additionally, this pre-reading activity front-loads the students with some important lines and quotes, bringing the student up to speed on the significance of the poem.
The one page comic strip comes with 4 pictures, gets students thinking about the themes associated with the story.
These drawings are used as a scaffolding piece. I use them to create a group discussion around the pertinent themes. Students in our AP Language and other courses (Heritage and 3 Honors) have also utilized this comic strips as a form of preparation, or vertical teaming, for the AP Spanish Literature and Culture class.
Students transition much more effectively into the play because they have a clear visual representation in their mind of the character and the story line.
