Substitute Teacher. It's inevitable - you're going to get sick, have an emergency, or need to tend to a family member for the day and you're going to have to call in a sub. No matter how much training and emphasis on respectful behavior we provide our students in regard to substitute teachers...there's always going to be a few who have a hard time managing their impulses with the change in routine. There their names are...right on the sub notes when you return, and now you have a mess to clean up.
Actually, it isn't your mess at all! The students who were misbehaving made the mess - you're just providing them with the tools to clean it up.
This "Misbehaving for the Substitute Teacher" document works really well as a communication tool with parents. The students who were misbehaving fill out the form, take it home for parents to read and sign, and return it to you the next day.
I like to prep the parents first by emailing them to let them know their child will be bringing home a document for them to sign. I've included a note that you can copy and paste into an email so the child's parents are not taken by surprise when they see the document.
This works great!!
