This game includes a variety of multisyllabic words, with no emphasis on particular prefixes or suffixes. To assist children with reading the words, I have divided the words into syllables using red and green.
I have included a page with smaller “title pages” to label the game. There is also a page with directions to include for student use.
How to play:
Place the cards in a pile so that all players can reach them. Each player takes a turn by choosing a card. If he/she correctly reads the word, he/she gets to keep the card. If an elf card is chosen, the child must put all of his/her cards back in the pile.
The player with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner.
Alternately, you could use the cards as flash cards for individual students or small groups. You could also use them for a whole class game by dividing the class into 2 teams. The team that gets the most words correct is the winner. If an elf card is drawn, the person on that team could lose a turn or the team could lose a point.
