A great phonics and word blending game for your kindergarten or first grade classroom literacy centers. The game includes both single vowels as well as digraphs, so you can pair students in mixed-ability groups, or differentiate instruction by printing several copies and grouping by instructional level. Can also be used as an assessment tool for phonics, as students are sounding out nonsense words.
Kindergarten and 1st Grade Common Core Standards:
Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary sound or many of the most frequent sounds for each consonant.
Associate the long and short sounds with the common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels.
Read common high-frequency words by sight (e.g., the, of, to, you, she, my, is, are, do, does).
Distinguish between similarly spelled words by identifying the sounds of the letters that differ.
Know the spelling-sound correspondences for common consonant digraphs.
Decode regularly spelled one-syllable words.
