Product Description
In our district, we use the program Making Meaning as part of our Literacy Block. There are a lot of texts to use for this program. I wanted to enhance the lesson a bit more by presenting the students with enriched questions. Therefore, I decided to create questioning cards that go along with the text/genres in the program (although you do not need to use the Making Meaning Program to implement these cards). The questions presented are a combination of higher-level thinking questions. I also included vocabulary words found in the text that students are required to use context clues to determine meaning. You can use the cards in different ways:
You could use the questioning cards to lead a whole group discussion during or after reading the text. When done, you can have students respond using Post-It Notes or using the provided fast-response slips if you do not have access to Post-It Notes. I have put 4 response slips per page for easy copying and cutting.
If you work with smaller groups, you may want to use these during a guided reading time with small groups. When done, you can have students respond using Post-It’s or using the provided response slips.
You could put print and laminate these and place in your Daily 5 Work on Writing Center for students to discuss and write a written response again using Post-It Notes or the provided fast-response slips!
The response slips can serve as a quick assessment for understanding.
