STEM activities are fun, hands-on, engaging, and collaborative. Students love the interactive nature of these activities, and teachers love the creative and critical thinking they require. This lesson (and extension activities) will allow you to present STEM with a twist. What's the twist? Her name is Miss Peculiar.
Each lesson begins with an introduction (or if you've taught one of these lessons before, a reminder) of Miss Peculiar, your very unusual friend. You'll share her eccentricities -- for example, her odd fashion taste (just look at her picture), her unusual diet (ostrich burgers for breakfast!), and her quirky habits (collecting shoelaces?). The more you talk her up, the more lifelike she'll become. (In my students’ minds, Miss Peculiar is ranked up there with Santa and the Tooth Fairy!) Her unusual pocketbook contains all sorts of odds and ends…and they are needed to complete this challenge!
This lesson contains:
--photo gallery (of completed project)
--2 student pages (printables) to complete during the lesson
--lesson conclusion/follow-up (with related science, technology, engineering, and math questions)
--1 extension activity (printable) for students who want to explore further or need a challenge
