Are Snowball fights banned in your school? I bet you can have this one. Play this game using white pom-poms or any manipulative you have handy (including scrunched up pieces of paper). Set out some "snowballs", count them, then while students hide their eyes take some snowballs away and hide them under a hat or cup. The task is to figure out how many snowballs are missing.
This product includes recording sheets for this game in both color and black and white. Several options are included to help you differentiate. There is a "math talk" page as well to help students with their thinking and remembering the words needed to explain their thinking.
This can be used whole class, small group, centers, partners, or individually.
