Are you ready for some hands on math fun? This game is easy to play and easy to differentiate.
You decide the number of manipulatives your students need to use.. In this case I used my counting and attribute dinosaurs. No Dinosaurs?? Use connecting cubes, counters, beads, glass stones (from the floral section of your favorite craft store), the possibilities are endless.
First count how many you have. Then everyone hides their eyes and you hide some (under cup, or any small container....maybe even painted black to look like a cave). When everyone opens their eyes you count how many you see. Now figure out how many are hiding in the cave or under a cup. Use your math talk to explain the process and your thinking.
If your students are ready for pencil and paper the recording pages are for you. I have included several options, so you can focus on different skills (missing addend, balanced equations, subtraction).
You can differentiate further by changing the number of manipulatives you use and by using the different recording sheets.
Common Core Aligned
Changing the manipulative you use makes this game feel new every time. You can change it up to match other content areas, seasons, and themes. Don't forget to check out my other Missing Addend recording sets.
