For many young learners, it can be challenging to master the concept of missing addends. I put this product together because of my own difficulties finding supplementary materials for this tricky concept.
Here's what's included in this product:
* A simple matching card game that can be used as group work or individual work. It features doubles and near doubles facts plus one set of number cards to review missing addends. (Two sets of question cards, one set of number cards to allow the teacher to choose from either set or even match the answer with both sets)
* Seven practice pages with sums to 10 and 20. Practice pages are meant to be used toward the beginning of your missing addends unit, when students are just learning. They're meant to guide students as they try different strategies to find the right answer. (Please see the preview for a sample page.)
* Seven review pages with sums to 10 and 20. Review pages are meant to be used toward the end of your missing addends unit, when students are more familiar with how to find the answer. Five of these pages ask students to use the UPS process (Understand, Plan, Solve) to find answers. The last two pages ask students to "put the puzzle together" to find the missing addends. Review pages offer less guidance and an opportunity to let students choose their own strategies.
* Double ten frame (20 frame) and Part-Part-Whole table. Students can keep these at their desks and use them as needed. I like to use different colored paper for each visual aid for easy identification.
