The Missing Assignment Grade Simulation is a motivational tool for students in any class. It is something I use at the beginning of the year because when I resorted to creating it later in the year, students said, "Why didn't you show us this earlier?!" It is a simple overhead projector chart that shows what happens to your grade if you miss an assignment, all assignments being worth 10 points, up to 20 assignments. It does all the math for you. The first part shows what happens to an A/B grade after one zero, and how many assignments it takes to bring the average back up. The second part shows what happens to a C/D grade after one, two, then 3 zeros.
