Do your students need to learn about different types of sentences? Practice reading simple sentences and determining missing end punctuation (period, question mark, exclamation point) with this pizza themed literacy center. This activity works well for a Kindergarten, first grade, or second grade writing center or whole group activity. A cut and paste craftivity is also included.
Print each page of pepperoni slices and Pizza Punctuation posters. Laminate and cut out all pieces for durability. For added fun, try storing the pieces in an empty pizza box. A blackline version (ink saving alternative) and blanks are also included.
Students will choose one pepperoni, read the statement, and decide what type of punctuation mark it needs. Students can then sort the cards by putting them on the correct pizza. A recording sheet is provided.
An additional idea is to hang the punctuation mark posters around the room. Read the statements aloud and have students move to the correct place. Or, pass out one pepperoni per child and have them move to the correct sign, share their sentence, swap cards, and repeat.
A craft is included where students will cut pepperoni slices, add missing punctuation marks, and glue them onto their pizza. Students can then color and decorate their pizza.
