This lesson and accompanying project is PERFECT if your class studies communities at any point in the year. Your students will become Urban Planners as they analyze essential parts of a community and decide which 10 most important buildings will be in their own model community. After designing their 3-D communities, students will arrange their thoughts in a graphic organizer and later present their city with a polished final draft.
My students work feverishly at this, year after year. It is so neat to hear them debate the most essential parts of a community!
This PowerPoint includes:
A comprehension page detailing what an urban planner does
Colorful posters to reflect the 5 different types of buildings
30 hand-drawn buildings for your students to use when producing their own community
Blank templates for additional buildings they might want to design
A graphic organizer to help students explain the features of their community
Final draft paper to bring it all together
