Students will experience an interactive journey to search for life on Mars via NASA's Perseverance Rover Mission.
Students will be taken on an incredible journey to Mars from launch, cruise, landing, and surface operations of the Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover Mission. Students complete a variety of highly engaging activites in their own personal interactive notebook. Perfect distance learning project for students to complete on their own, in small groups, or complete as a whole group project.
Students will learn about each phase of the Mars 2020 Mission. Launch, Cruise/Approach, Entry, Descent, Landing, and Surface Operations.
Highly engaging video explains the entire Mars 2020 Perseverance Mission. Have students complete independently or complete as a whole group.
Perseverance Rover Scientific Instruments
Using NASA's Interactive Mission Guide, students learn about all 7 scientific instruments on board the rover Perseverance.
NASA Interactive Mission Simulation
Students will experience a realistic simulation that takes them on the spacecraft's journey from outer-earth orbit, to entry, descent, and landing of the rover Perseverence on the surface of Mars. Students record detailed data about each phase in their interactive notebooks in preparation for watching the landing live or pre-recorded!
Mars Helicopter Ingenuity
Students will learn how NASA plans on testing the helicopter Ingenuity on Mars for the first time.
Perseverance Rover Surface Operations
Students will learn how Perseverance finds and collects rock samples, stores the samples, and caches the samples on the surface of Mars for retrieval by a later mission.
Included in this resource: Teacher Guide, Answer Key Version of Interactive Notebook, Student Version Interactive Notebook, Perseverance Mission Overview Video Student Questions & Answer Key
Students will complete 5 Missions on an interactive quest to search for evidence of life on Mars and the geologic history of the Jezero Crater region by NASA's Perseverance Rover. This No-Prep Lesson includes complete Teacher Guide!
Jezero Crater Flyover
Students begin their exploration by taking an interactive journey by flying over the Jezero Crater region. Students will learn about past evidence of water, climate change on Mars, NASA's plans for exploring for evidence of life on Mars, and the prime mission of Perseverance's first 2 years.
Mission 1: Jezero Crater
Students will use NASA's Interactive Perseverance Location Map to obtain measurements of Jezero Crater in an attempt to gain a better understanding of the scale and geologic history of the region. Students will use math skills to calculate the diameter of Jezero Crater in both metric and english standard units in a real world math problem simulation.
Mission 2: Perseverance Landing Site
Students will use NASA's Interactive Perseverance Location Map to obtain measurements of Perseverance's Landing Site in an attempt to gain a better understanding of the scale and geologic history of the region. Students will use math skills to calculate the diameter of Perseverance's Landing Site in both metric and english standard units in a real world math problem simulation.
Mission 3: Belva Crater
Students will use NASA's Interactive Perseverance Location Map to obtain measurements of Belva Crater in an attempt to gain a better understanding of the scale and geologic history of the region. Students will use math skills to calculate the diameter of Belva Crater in both metric and english standard units in a real world math problem simulation.
Mission 4: Evidence of Water
Students will apply their knowledge gained of the Jezero Crater Region to analyze evidence of water and make predictions on where life may have existed in the ancient past.
Mission 5: Geologic History of Jezero Crater Region
Students will use analytical and problem solving skills to re-create the geologic history of the Jezero Crater Region by matching geologic events to evidence.
Students follow NASA's Perseverance Rover as it explores Jezero Crater for evidence of past life on Mars.
Perseverance's Scientific Instruments
Students take a tour of Perseverance and learn about the 7 scientific instruments onboard the rover.
Rover Tracking Journal
Students will be able to track exactly where Perseverance is at any given time and see where the rover has been. Students will track data as it is published by NASA scientists and update their own personal data journal with Perseverance's location and other mission data.
