This is the first in an ongoing series of activities for a Calculus class. Could also be used in Physics or Engineering. Here is a brief introduction:

"It is the year 2120 and the Earth's resources have been drastically depleted in the past 100 years. The president of the United World Council (UWC) has authorized you and your crew to proceed with the Mars mission. You will pilot the most advanced spaceship the world has ever known, the Excelsior! It will carry terraforming equipment and 200 colonists to begin making Mars habitable for human life"

This first activity focuses on Integration. It also has Arc Length and unit conversions.

Please let me know what you think and if you would be interested in continuing the journey to Mars!
