KIDS' WINGS' GUIDE AND GAME FOR
MISTY GORDON AND THE MYSTERY OF THE GHOST PIRATES
by Kim Kennedy
What is your favorite kind of story? A ghost story? A funny story about modern kids? A cool mystery? A story about pirates? A story with some crazy characters? A school made from a 400-year-old castle?
What if it were a story that combined ALL of your favorites? It would be named Misty Gordon and the Mystery of the Ghost Pirates!
Misty Gordon is the daughter of a rather weird father who drives an old converted ice cream truck with the word "DEAD" painted on the side. "DEAD" is the acronym for "Deceased Estate and Antiques Dealer." (He still hasn't figured out how to disconnect the speaker, so it still plays the ice cream truck music.) When someone dies, Mr. Gordon purchases the dead person's things.
Misty sometimes go along with her dad and little brother just to see what kind of treasures are in the old houses, but on one trip ... the one to Fannie Belcher's house ... Misty gets more than she bargained for! Would you believe, Fannie Belcher's diary? (If she can just CATCH it every time it flies out of Fannie's desk!) And then, there's her old timey telephone ... that sometimes actually RINGS even though it's not connected! Her father brings Fanny's old tattered, molting mink coat for her mother, but there's life in it, yet. Sort of.
Probably the creepiest item from Fannie Belcher's house are her squinty-eyed glasses. You won't believe what happens when Misty puts them on!
When strange things begin to happen, Misty and her friend Yoshi investigate and are shocked to find evidence of pirates, ghosts, and an evil plot to kill and destroy!
This story will become a favorite of avid readers and reluctant readers as well! Its challenging vocabulary, descriptions, and figures of speech will make teachers' mouths water, and the hysterical character and store names will keep everyone rolling on the floor.
