One reason we choose adjectives is to clarify for readers what kinds of nouns we write about. For example, in the phrase “a high shelf,” the adjective ‘high’ reveals what kind of shelf. Sometimes we misuse adjectives, though. We may be choosing words that hurt other people, even if we don’t know we’re hurting other people. Goals: Replace adjectives that are hurtful in the ways they’re used. Retain the meaning of sentences. Page 1 = Handout. Page 2 = Poster.
