My Mitosis Animation
My Mitosis animation is a student project that requires kids to create their own, digital animation. Using Google slides or Power Point, students create their animations in much the same way cartoon artists do. The key learning in this activity takes place when students attempt to take their 2D drawings and put them into motion. Students must look at differences between each phase and figure out what parts are moving. In addition, words like spindle fibers and chromatin need to be understood so they can appropriately illustrate and animate them. While constructing their mitosis animations, students ask meaningful questions that reveal their understanding of the process. This provides many learning moments. A teacher example of the final product with teaching notes is included in this project.
