This product is a color-by-number activity that allows students to answer various questions related to mitosis and meiosis. And YES- even secondary students love to color!
There are 12 different sentences/questions with answer choices to choose from. Each answer choice corresponds to a different color. If all of the correct answer choices are chosen, then their final mystery picture will be colored correctly to reflect complete mastery of the content and reveal the hidden image.
I've also included an optional reading passage for students that reviews mitosis and meiosis, along with related images. This passage could be used as a way to differentiate for different leveled learners, or you could use it for students who are just getting exposed to cell division and the cell cycle.
If you choose not to use the optional reading passage, then students should be familiar with the following terms and ideas in order to be successful with this activity:
•terms such as: parent cell, daughter cell, interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase, cytokinesis, cytoplasm, chromosomes
This could be used as a quick assessment, a homework assignment, additional practice, extra credit, or for early finishers. These are also great for days when you have to be out of the classroom - a sub can easily take over this lesson!
