We all know Jan Richardson’s “Mix and Fix” strategy for helping kids remember their sight words is phenomenal. I’ve seen first-hand how this one strategy works miracles in the classroom. But “mix and fix” needs you there to present and help monitor. So continue doing that when you are working in small groups. But, here’s a way for students to independently continue to “mix and fix” when they aren’t working with you. Now, they will manipulate letters to build NEW words!!
