This no-prep, highly engaging math mystery activity will have your class dying to solve the clues to catch the culprit!
The focus is on adding mixed numbers but students will also need to be able to find fractions with like denominators and recognize that a fraction with the same numerator and denominator equals one whole.
This activity would be appropriate for a fourth or fifth-grade classroom and I have used it in both. The mystery includes two clues, five suspects, ten problems to solve, and an ending to the mystery.
The word problems in Clue 2 are meant to be tricky for students and will force them to draw a picture for it to make sense.
I hope your students enjoy it as much as mine did. Please leave me a review or comment to let me know what you think!
