Monster Memory--36 Cards of Mixed Numbers and Improper Fractions.
This is a basic memory game. Students place the number side of the cards down in a 6 by 6 array. Students take turns flipping 2 cards at a time. If the cards are equivalent, the student keeps the two cards and gets another turn to try for a match. If the cards are not a match, the next student gets a turn. When all matches are found, the student with the greatest number of matches wins.
Copy pages onto cardstock back to back with the monster cards on one side and the fraction cards on the other side. If you need to conserve color ink, use the black and white monsters. If you want a bit of color, use the purple monsters.
This could also be used as a simple matching game without having to flip cards. Students could work with a partner and find all the matches together. Then they could journal write about a match they found and justify how they know their match was correct.
