Do your students need help building sentences with capital letters, punctuation, and proper word order? Use these April themed sentence scrambles to help your students practice reading and reinforce the proper way to make sentences. These sentences focus on Puddle words.

Included:

★8 Vocabulary Words

★40 Sentences

★Each vocabulary word has 5 sentences.

Differentiated Sentences: Each vocabulary word has...

  • Level 1: One "I like" and one "I see" sentence
  • Level 2: One "The___can" and one "the____is" or 2 other 4-word sentences
  • Level 3: One 6-word sentence

Differentiated Ways to Play:

★Print, laminate, and cut!

★Level 1: Write correct sentences on a whiteboard or project so students can match word cards to the developed sentences.

★Level 2: Velcro the beginning half (2 or 3 words) to the file folder and have students think about how the sentences end and complete the second half independently.

★Level 3: Place word cards in a center and have students independently sort words to create sentences.

Add a writing component by having students copy completed sentences. Increase complexity by having students extend to create their own story.

Make this center more or less challenging by changing the number of sentences you have available for students to choose from.

  • Focus on one vocabulary word (ex. silly) and have students make different sentences with it OR focus on one level such as opinion sentences, expanding sentences, etc. with all the themed vocabulary words.

These help my students remember sentences are made up of words in a certain order, not just randomly put together! Words in the same 6-word challenge sentence include the same clipart in the corner to give students visual cues. To help students discriminate between the 4-word sentences, glue onto different colored sentence strips before laminating. This can also aid in the durability of your sentences if used as a pocket chart center. Students can also remember that sentences start with a capital letter and end with punctuation to help them get started with their task.
