This packet of mixed up sentences and questions has 3 different levels for differentiation. An extension recording sheet is also included. This activity can be used as guided practice with a teacher or support staff and/or it can be used at a literacy center.
Level 1: Arranging word cards into the correct order to form very simple sentences. Capitalization and punctuation are imbedded for “clues” to help the emergent reader. This level would also be excellent for English Learners as it helps support object identification AND reading.
Level 2: Arranging word cards into sentences and questions in the correct order at a slightly higher level. Capitalization and punctuation are imbedded for “clues” to finding the first and last word.
Level 3: At this level, the student first arranges the word cards into a sentence without any “clues” and adds the “period” card. Next, using the same word cards, the student rearranges the cards to form a question and adds the “question mark” card. This level really “ratchets up” the expectation. This is very difficult for my early readers, particularly my English Learners. It is amazing, however, how quickly they catch on with guided practice.
Extension: A worksheet is provided for writing practice. After the students “fix up the mix up”, they record their answers on the sheet provided. It has corresponding pictures for each word card sentence/question.
*Title cards to identify the set of word cards and help with organization
*3 sets of word cards for differentiation
*Each level has 14 colorful sentences/questions
*Worksheet with corresponding pictures for students to write their sentences/questions
*Each set of word cards has an identifying shape to identify the level
(Level 1: purple diamond, Level 2: green circle, Level 3: red triangle)
Have you ever had a resource with different levels that get all mixed up????
That will not happen with these sets!!
