Product Description
Designed to follow basic opaque color mixing, where students take Primary Tempera and mix Secondary Colors, this project allows students to learn how most colors in art and nature are actually Tints or Shades of the Primary and Secondary colors.
In the instructions I ask that students create their own Tint and Shade Chart, but I have also included one that can be printed for time constrained situations.
For older children this can be an individual project, for Middle School students you might want to do this in small groups to speed things up. If so, think about some formal directions like, "Wait until everyone in your group has used a tint before you lighten it some more."
I have found this to be a very effective learning tool, and the finished "chart" becomes a valuable visual and reference resource for the students later on.
