Simple lab to reinforce differences between types of mixtures. Easy setup for teacher, lots of learning output from students!
Mixtures are usually how you find things in nature. Rocks, the ocean, your soda . . . just about anything you can name is a mixture! These mixtures are held together by physical forces – not chemical!
The purpose of this lab will be to examine the physical properties of four different mixtures in order to classify each as a suspension, colloid, solution, or a combination of the above. Classification will be based on two tests: the Tyndall Effect test and filtration of each sample.
Includes Teacher Notes, Pre-Lab Assignment, and Analysis Questions
