Here is a great hands-on activity for students to investigate mixtures and solutions. This lab experiment is to be conducted in groups. The easy to follow procedures will allow the students to investigate on their own as the teacher walks around and facilitates the inquiry. Students are to record their observations and draw an illustration to show their understanding.
Please note that you will need the following (per group) to conduct the experiment:
* graduated cylinder * salt, sand, iron fillings
* magnet * clear cups
* spoon * funnels
* filter paper * paper towel
