After reading "Don't Let the Pigeon..." books by Mo Willems, your students will be excited to make connections to the books. Your young writers will get to take themselves through the writing process and brainstorm new ideas for their own interpretation of "Don't let the Pigeon...". There are a variety of writing sheets to choose from that can make each of your authors stories quite unique. My students truly had a blast writing their own version, while using Mo Willems as a great author model. Also, there are several activities that will promote great discussion on comparing and contrasting these two books and characters. There is a great integration of Reading and Writing in this Unit and of course, it aligns with COMMON CORE!
